The game "Banishing text" is a socially useful project that develops typing skills on the keyboard. She talks about a hero who deals with various demons. To do this, he uses combat spells. Players need to type words quickly, and they turn into powerful spells to defeat enemies and demons. The authors expect to present a full-fledged demo version this fall.

What kind of game is "Exorcist by text"?

A group of students presented the development of "Banishing Text", a socially useful game that develops typing skills on the keyboard. A group of three people called Kalina is working on the project, but the main developer is Arkady Kulagin, a student at the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R.E. Alekseev. The idea to create a game about a hero who defends ancient Russian values came to him in high school.

The game is based on the so—called words of light, powerful spells that help the hero defeat demons. The prototype of the project used random text to test the mechanics of the spell set. But then it became clear that the author needed some more holistic idea.

— I plan to fill the "words of light" with real meaning, inspired by ancient texts, prayers and philosophical sayings. But first, I want to implement the idea in the gameplay so that people are interested in doing something as simple as typing on a keyboard," Arkady Kulagin said.

Another feature of the project is that all the graphics and visual elements were hand—drawn on paper and then digitized. Due to this, the "Exorcist text" looks like a sketch come to life.

The demo version is scheduled for release this fall. The authors expect to receive feedback from the players and hone the gameplay. A full-fledged release is scheduled for the first half of 2026.

The project is currently far from being playable — it looks like a prototype, demonstrating only the most basic mechanics, said Oleg Rusakov, an expert in the gaming industry.

— However, if you consider that the game is created by a first-year student alone, the amateur and slightly sloppy status of the project is quite excusable. The idea itself is not new, it has already been used in games such as Typing of the Dead or Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun — Words of Vengeance. However, the idea of linking the familiar process of blind printing with the game mechanics of fighting demons can captivate a wide variety of people," the expert said.

According to Mikhail Lisetsky, the creator of the Streamfest and Gamedays gaming festivals, the subspecies of "printable" games has come a long way in the West: from purely children's educational games to serious genre Typing of the Dead, Epistory and other projects where typing is not just a mechanic.

In Russia, this niche, by and large, has not developed beyond applications like "Keyboard Solo". Therefore, the author of the "Banishing Text" now has a blank sheet, you can experiment. Considering that the entertainment potential of typing games is largely determined by the expressive capabilities of the language, projects based on the "great and mighty" initially have, as they say, a rich toolkit. Another thing is that localization of such games into other languages can be fraught with additional difficulties. It is all the more important how the domestic gamer will react to the game," the expert noted.

The project "Exorcising text" is not without potential, noted IT expert Sergey Pomortsev. The specialist noted that the enthusiastic developer has no real experience yet.

— It is interesting to see exactly how this development will be promoted and monetized. The demo version will put everything in its place and give the developer the necessary feedback. And it is extremely important that patriotic theses do not block the gameplay. Russia needs to be protected, but you shouldn't forget about the gameplay either," he added.

According to gaming blogger and streamer Roman Dorogavtsev, the project is still at a very early stage of development. The idea of creating a protagonist in the role of an exorcist, where each demon embodies the fears and regrets of a past life, may be interesting. But you need something more than a beautifully rendered concept on the game description page.

The expert believes that the "Banishing text" should finally determine the target audience and the concept. Whether she will become attached to historical motives or completely go into the fantasy component will largely determine the future fate of the Kalina Studio, he concluded.
