- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus commented on the closure of borders by Poland
Minsk is not concerned about Warsaw's decision to close the border, since these actions are primarily directed against the Polish state itself. This was announced on September 12 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Maxim Ryzhenkov.
"We are reacting calmly. In fact, what Poland is doing today is primarily directed against Poland itself," the diplomat said in a comment to the First Information TV channel.
The State Customs Committee of Belarus reported that the country's customs authorities are ready to increase the flow of cars on the Lithuanian and Latvian routes after the border closure.
"The Polish side completely closed the border with Belarus last night — the Brest, Kozlovichi and railway checkpoints. Belarusian customs officers are ready to increase the flow of vehicles in the Lithuanian and Latvian directions in the event of a reorientation of traffic from the Polish direction to these sections of the border," the agency's website says.
Reinforced shifts have been introduced at other checkpoints — Kamenny Log, Benyakoni and Grigorovshchyna. Customs officers are ready to process the maximum number of vehicles.
On the night of September 12, the Polish authorities closed the border, saying that this was due to the start of the Zapad-2025 Russian–Belarusian military exercises. A day earlier, the deputy head of the Polish Ministry of Defense, Cesary Tomczyk, said that the government planned to deploy 40,000 troops to the borders with Russia and Belarus in the coming days. He clarified that Warsaw had been preparing for the Zapad-2025 exercises for several months.
