Over the past day, 325 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 33 people were killed and 383 injured. 24 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on September 12 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 97 road accidents, 42 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 55 outside their area of operation, nine pedestrians were killed, and 89 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 27 child pedestrians, 16 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.

There were 10 accidents involving buses, in which there were no fatalities, but 15 road users, including two children, needed medical help. Six bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles. 52 accidents involving minors were also registered, in which 55 young road users were injured, including 14 passengers, five cyclists and the same number of motor transport drivers. There are no dead children.

In Syktyvkar, a 22-year-old passenger car driver ran over a 12-year-old cyclist who was crossing the roadway at an adjustable pedestrian crossing in the evening at a controlled intersection when turning left at a traffic light. As a result of the accident, the student received minor injuries and, after receiving medical care, was sent for outpatient treatment.

On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate drew the attention of parents to the need to ensure the maximum safety of their children during this period, when schoolchildren who are resting from classes spend a lot of free time on the street, and, as a result, they get into car accidents more often than on weekdays. Lack of control over children's behavior and leisure activities, especially in the evening, often leads to injury or even death of young road users.

The department recommended that parents hold an explanatory conversation with their children about the rules of safe cycling, paying special attention to the need to dismount when crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing. It is necessary to regularly tell them about the rules of the road, the dangers of entering the roadway and the need to follow the rules of safe behavior, especially when crossing the road. It is important to emphasize that access to public roads for cyclists is allowed only when they reach the age of 14, the State Traffic Inspectorate noted.

Parents were also urged to strictly monitor and prevent, rather than encourage, attempts by children and teenagers without experience, confident driving skills and solid knowledge of traffic rules to use bicycles, scooters and personal mobility aids. Drivers were told to comply with the rules for transporting children in the car when making even the shortest trips. While driving, it is important to choose the speed limit depending on the time of day, the condition of the roadway and weather conditions.

"We urge motorists to slow down and increase the distance to the vehicles in front of them, as well as to avoid frequent lane changes, avoid sudden maneuvers and overtaking, and strictly comply with traffic regulations related to starting traffic, changing lanes, turning, U-turn, and stopping. Not only your life and health depend on observing all these basic measures of motor vehicle safety and the level of personal driving discipline, but also the lives and health of your passengers and other road users," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Earlier, on September 11, the State Traffic Inspectorate reported that in the first ten days of September, 548 accidents involving minors under the age of 16 occurred in Russia, in which 10 children were killed and 609 injured.
