- The United States threatened to restrict entry for disrespectful publications about Kirk
The United States may impose visa restrictions on foreigners who speak disrespectfully on social media about the death of Charlie Kirk, a political activist and ally of American leader Donald Trump. This was announced on September 11 by First Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
"In light of the horrific murder of a leading political figure committed yesterday, I want to emphasize that foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome in our country, <...> I have instructed our consular staff to take appropriate measures," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Landau asked to be informed of any such statements by foreigners so that the State Department could take measures to protect American citizens.
On September 10, political activist Charlie Kirk died after being shot in the neck during an event at the University of Utah.
Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), linked Kirk's murder to the depth of the split observed in the United States. He stressed that the attempt on the life of a man who opposed military aid to Ukraine is important not only for the United States, but for the whole world.
