Lukashenko: the prospect of peace in Ukraine depends on Europe and Zelensky
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the further development of the situation in Ukraine now largely depends on European countries and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. He announced this on September 11 at a meeting with Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Valentin Rybakov.
"What the Americans said, the Russians, I am absolutely sure, are ready to accept it. We have already discussed it more than once with the President of Russia [Vladimir Putin]. The question is for the Europeans and Zelensky," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.
He also noted that Ukrainians strive for victory, but "this will never happen." In addition, the Belarusian leader commented on the recent drone incidents, stressing that Minsk had informed Poland in advance about drone flights, some of which had been shot down.
"Listen like savages. Here they are escalating the situation out of the blue. They probably want us to respond appropriately to this. But we don't want any wars or conflicts. We don't want borders to be closed. But if we are confronted with a fact, we will have to react," Lukashenko added.
On September 3, Putin called on Zelensky to come to Moscow if he was ready for negotiations. According to the Russian president, he never ruled out the possibility of a meeting with the Ukrainian president, but questioned the expediency of holding it.
