The first visit to a gynecologist is an important stage in every girl's life, which is often accompanied by worries and a lot of questions. To make this moment comfortable and useful, Nelly Krivoshchapova, an obstetrician-gynecologist at the Invitro clinic, shared with Izvestia on September 13 tips on how to prepare for a doctor's appointment and minimize stress.

"For many teenagers, the word "gynecologist" causes tension, and this is normal. It is important that the first visit to the doctor becomes an experience that teaches the girl to respect her body, listen to herself and not be afraid to seek medical help," the expert emphasized.

According to her, the outcome of the visit largely depends on how adults approach it. Calmness, respect and care on the part of parents or accompanying persons are the best recommendations that can be given to daughters at this important moment.

The doctor paid special attention to the fact that it depends on the first visit to the gynecologist whether the teenager will seek medical help in the future or will be shy, uncomfortable and worried alone. According to Krivoshchapova, a teenager should understand that he has the right to go to an appointment not only with an adult, but also on his own. In addition, he should know that he can refuse an examination if he feels uncomfortable.

"If a mother has her own fears about doctors or unpleasant experiences in the past, it is important not to pass on these feelings to her daughter. Your story may be different, and for your daughter, this visit should be careful and respectful," the doctor advises.

As for preventive examinations, they are carried out in girls aged three and six years. These examinations, as Krivoshchapova emphasized, take place without interventions and are aimed at identifying possible congenital features, as well as discussing hygiene and disease prevention issues with her mother.

The first conscious visit to a gynecologist usually occurs in adolescence, from 10 to 14 years old, depending on individual characteristics. At the reception, the doctor pays attention to such issues as the onset of menstruation, their regularity and duration. Another important aspect is to find out how active a girl's lifestyle is, how she copes with the pressures of school and sports, and how she feels emotionally.

During the first visit, the doctor may prescribe a number of examinations, such as ultrasound of the pelvis through the abdomen, blood tests for hormones, a smear on flora, a general blood test, a study of vitamin levels and iron metabolism. In case of sexual activity, an infection screening may be recommended. However, it is important that the first visit can only be a conversation with a doctor. The examination is carried out only if there are complaints and with the consent of the girl and her parents, if she is under 15 years old. From the age of 15, the consent to the examination is given by the girl herself.

On August 18, Irina Vasilyeva, head of the Mammology clinic at the European Medical Center (EMC), told Izvestia the main myths about breast cancer. According to the expert, the most dangerous myth about breast cancer is the belief that if there are no symptoms or lumps, then everything is fine.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
