Regular routine checkups help to identify hidden diseases in time, which, in turn, can prevent them from developing into more serious problems. Gulnara Orlova, Director of Insurance Products and Customer Experience Development at Rosgosstrakh Life, cardiologist, told Izvestia on September 13 why "nothing hurts" is not a reason to postpone a visit to a specialist.

According to her, there are a number of diseases that can develop asymptomatically in the early stages. For example, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, or tumors do not appear at the first stages and can only be detected at later stages, when treatment requires significant efforts.

"Early diagnosis avoids this scenario.": the earlier the disease is detected, the easier and cheaper it is to treat it and the higher the chance of achieving a full recovery," Orlova emphasized.

The minimum set of mandatory tests and checks for the annual check-up includes clinical and biochemical blood tests, ECG, blood pressure measurement, fluorography and examination by a therapist. It is recommended that women consult a gynecologist and a mammologist, and men consult a urologist. After the age of 40, it is useful to undergo ultrasound of the abdominal cavity, thyroid gland, and colonoscopy.

The doctor stated that consultations with a cardiologist and gastroenterologist are equally important. If there are cases of inherited diseases in the family, such as cancer, heart problems or diabetes, it is worth discussing an individual prevention plan with a specialist.

"Schedule checkups, just like vacations or car maintenance. One visit per year is not so much, especially if you take it as an investment in your well—being. VHI or cumulative life insurance (NHI) programs with preventive options will cover the costs of basic examinations and will provide an opportunity to safely undergo the necessary specialists in conveniently located clinics at a convenient time," concluded Orlova.

On August 24, Evgeny Kokin, cardiologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), PhD, spoke about proper nutrition for heart health. According to him, special attention should be paid to the ratio of fats — no more than 1 part saturated to 10 parts unsaturated, and trans fats should be completely excluded if possible.
