A sculpture of a deer, an unofficial symbol of the city, is being restored in Chita. Traces of bullets and axe blows were found on the statue. Experts plan to restore it to its original form by the end of September, and in October it will be returned to its original place.

According to ChitaMedia news agency with reference to the city administration, sculptor Viktor Istomin and his team are engaged in the restoration. They remove numerous defects and damages from the aluminum body. Some of them could not be removed during the previous renovation in the early 2000s.

So, under a layer of old putty, a large number of bullet marks were found, which were made back in the 1990s. Their score can go into the hundreds. The statue was beaten with an axe several times, and its ear was torn off.

It is planned not only to restore the body of the raisin, but also to replace its horns. They will be made according to a historical model, since the current ones, made in 2001, do not correspond to the proportions of the animal. Then the sculpture was damaged during transportation from Titovskaya Sopka to Aginsky tract.

The deer statue was brought to Chita from Leningrad in the late 1960s. At first, she stood in the City Garden, and later moved to Titovskaya Sopka. The sculpture became popular, and its image was used as a television screen saver.

In the 2000s, after the construction of the chapel began, the deer was dismantled and transported to the entrance to Chita.

Earlier it was reported that several hundred cultural heritage sites in Transbaikalia need restoration. One of the main reasons for the lack of repairs is the lack of funds.
