Roman Alekhine, a military blogger and ex-adviser to the governor of the Kursk region, may face a criminal case under articles on large-scale fraud and the legalization of criminally acquired funds. Olivia Livingston, a lawyer and head of the Law and Sport Research Center, told Izvestia about this on September 11.

"The investigators will carefully analyze which crime is the main one. Fraud may be primary and money laundering secondary. But these compositions often go together," Livingston said.

According to her, if it is established that Alekhine's actions led to the fact that vital medicines were not supplied to the fighters and their health was harmed, additional crimes may be involved in the case.

Vasily Burdyug, a lawyer and member of the Moscow Bar Association, added that, given the amount of funds with which the fraud was committed, the military blogger could face up to 10 years in prison.

A day earlier, it was reported that in 2014, Alekhine was tried for selling substandard prostheses for the disabled. It was clarified that for a small amount he purchased old prosthetics from the families of deceased disabled people or those who needed money. However, he was only fined in court.

Prior to that, on September 9, it became known that an investigation was being conducted against Alekhine on suspicion of fraud related to assistance to military personnel of his military district. He is suspected of money laundering and tax evasion under the guise of helping participants in a special operation. Izvestia has footage of a military blogger talking about a way to launder millions of rubles through his charitable foundation. As part of the criminal scheme, the company transfers 200 million rubles to the fund for allegedly helping the front. After that, Alekhine purchases medicines worth 150 million from a company affiliated with the company for its participants, and keeps the remaining funds for himself as a "commission."
