The Nikolaevsky Palace in St. Petersburg, one of the most famous architectural complexes of the northern capital and the former princely residence, has been transferred to the jurisdiction of the House of Music. This was reported on September 11 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

For the past few decades, the palace has been virtually unattended, and now it will serve Russian art and raise world-class stars within its walls. The day before, already recognized masters and students gave their first concert within its walls, thus celebrating the housewarming party.

"The main thing for the musicians this evening is to understand how the Nikolaevsky Palace sounds, and today's performance by the soloists of the St. Petersburg House of Music is a kind of test drive, testing the acoustic capabilities of the room," explained journalist Maxim Prikhod.

The soloists and the faculty of the St. Petersburg House of Music tested the stage, which will now become their second home. The widest range of instruments was chosen for the performance. Familiar works in new architectural forms have acquired a new sound.

"I'm always afraid to cry, because this music is so touching to the soul that you really feel the greatest happiness when you play this piece," said Elizaveta Kluchereva, soloist of the St. Petersburg House of Music.

Sergey Roldugin, the artistic director of the St. Petersburg House of Music, is very pleased with the new premises, but notes that more extensive renovation work is to be carried out in it.

"There is a huge front of work here, a huge one. It's easy to clean even this front staircase, it's not easy to clean. The dust of centuries has been ingrained in marble, it is a porous material, marble, and it needed to be restored, not cleaned with a cloth," said the People's Artist of the Russian Federation.

During the Soviet era and the last few decades, the palace's premises were occupied by various trade union organizations and commercial firms, weddings were held there, and excursions were organized. However, it was impossible to get into most of the palace — several halls, which make up a beautiful suite, had previously been closed to the public. Now they have organized an exhibition with historical photographs of other famous palaces — imperial residences in the vicinity of Yalta, which are well known to the soloists of the House of Music.

"The most impressive thing for me is, as always, the genius of beauty that people created before us and now they seem to have suggested that we carry this baton further. This is a huge task, and for me it is the most important one," Roldugin added.

The concert guests, among whom were People's Artist of Russia Nikolai Tsiskaridze and Mikhail Shvydkoi, Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, agreed that it is in such interiors that people of art form an understanding of beauty.

"Music has such a special property of filling the space. If these are good musicians, if this is a very well—chosen repertoire, then all this creates a very special aura," said Shvydkoi.

In early September, it was reported that the music school at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg, known as the "ten years old", would also move to the complex of buildings included in the Nikolaevsky Palace on Labor Square. In the spring of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova to work on this issue. Sergey Roldugin also participated in resolving the issue related to the condition of the building. The students received a new school building with an area of more than 12 thousand square meters in the city center.
