Visual impairment is becoming one of the most common problems of modern society. According to research data, more than 2.5 billion people on the planet face nearsightedness or farsightedness, and most of them are people of working age. Sino Goziev, Ph.D., ophthalmologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia about this on September 14.

Vision problems often develop due to excessive eye strain caused by the constant use of gadgets. As a result, the visual muscles stop functioning normally, which leads to eye fatigue and decreased image clarity. Their condition can also be affected by using the wrong glasses or contact lenses.

"Visual impairment can also be associated with various internal disorders. For example, in people with hypertension or diabetes, retinal vessels suffer first, and this directly affects visual acuity. It happens that the changes are associated with hormonal changes: pregnancy, childbirth, menopause — all this can be accompanied by temporary visual impairment," said the doctor.

In addition, he added, age-related changes also cause visual impairment. After the age of 40, almost every person experiences a decrease in the elasticity of the lens, which leads to age-related hyperopia. In some cases, this can develop into more serious diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, or retinal degenerative changes. Such conditions require careful monitoring and, in some cases, surgical intervention.

The specialist noted that timely medical attention is mandatory for any changes in vision. Modern ophthalmology provides a wide range of correction methods, from corrective lenses to laser surgery. However, the main thing is prevention, which can significantly reduce the risk of serious diseases. Taking regular breaks when working with screens, eating a balanced diet, protecting your eyes from UV radiation, and giving up bad habits are important measures to preserve your health.

"It's worth taking care of your eyesight as carefully as your heart or joints. After all, the quality of life directly depends on it, and the sooner you start taking care of your eyes, the longer you will keep a clear and vivid view of the world," concluded the ophthalmologist.

Popular Science magazine reported on July 29 that when choosing sunglasses in summer, it is important to consider not only the design, but also the color of the lenses. It is specified that not only comfort depends on the shade, but also the quality of vision, especially during outdoor activities.
