More than 60 searches were conducted in St. Petersburg in a major case on the legalization of migrants

The police and the border guard service have uncovered a large-scale illegal migration channel in St. Petersburg and conducted more than 60 searches. This was reported on September 11 in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city and the Leningrad region.

It is specified that during 60 searches, 10 suspects were detained, including the heads of a large consulting company. They will be charged in the near future.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, since 2020, a criminal group has been organizing the illegal employment of migrants. The companies controlled by the defendants provided labor for construction and cleaning companies, as well as delivery services. The migrants were officially registered as employees of these companies, but in fact their employment documents had no legal force and served only as a basis for extending patents and temporary stay in Russia.

"These affiliated companies did not conduct any real business activities and were created solely to minimize the risks and consequences of employing migrants," the Interior Ministry noted.

Experts have confirmed that the documents used to legalize migrants are legally null and void. According to operational data, the number of illegally legalized labor migrants can number in the hundreds.

On September 10, more than 80 illegal immigrants were identified during a raid in one of the Moscow hostels as part of a pre-investigation check on the organization of illegal migration against the background of the death of an athlete after a fight with foreign citizens in the Moscow region. At the moment, the detainees are being checked for involvement in crimes against state power and public safety. The handwritten materials discovered during the inspection are being examined for the content of extremist ideas.
