The Butyrsky court of Moscow sentenced members of an organized criminal community (OPS) who stole more than 50 million rubles from the bank accounts of deceased citizens to imprisonment for a term of 6 to 14 years. This was announced on September 11 by the FSB's Public Relations Center.

"The Butyrsky Court of Moscow has convicted members of an organized criminal community (OPS) specializing in the remote theft of funds from the accounts of Russian citizens," the message says.

The investigation revealed that criminals, including employees of mobile operators and financial institutions, used access to databases to obtain information about the death of subscribers and to reissue their SIM cards. This allowed them to withdraw funds from the mobile applications of deceased customers to controlled accounts. The damage caused by the actions of the criminals amounted to more than 50 million rubles.

A criminal case was opened into the crimes, and the defendants were sentenced to terms of imprisonment from 6 to 14 years with fines from 250,000 to 400,000 rubles.

On September 4, the Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Republic of Dagestan stopped the fraudulent activities of a former employee of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation in the region when receiving payments. It was established that in 2016, the man submitted deliberately forged documents to the Ministry of Construction, Architecture and Housing and Communal Services of Dagestan, on the basis of which the agency transferred funds to him for the construction of residential premises.
