- The US State Department approved the sale of missiles to Finland for more than $ 1 billion
The U.S. State Department has decided to approve the potential sale of advanced AIM-120D-3 missiles to Finland for over $1 billion. This was announced on September 10 on the website of the Agency for Defense Cooperation (DSCA).
"The State Department has decided to approve the possible sale to the Finnish government of improved AIM–120D-3 medium-range air—to-air missiles and related equipment worth $1.07 billion," the publication says.
It is emphasized that the initiative to conclude this deal came from Helsinki, whose representatives requested 405 missiles from Washington, as well as eight sections of their guidance with precise positioning.
In addition, according to possible agreements, the purchase will include built-in equipment for testing/reprogramming common ammunition (CMBRE); kits for group testing of AD-891 adapters, as well as ammunition for the gun and spare parts for it.
The statement clarifies that this acquisition will allow Finland to counter "current and future threats" and contribute to its defense "compatibility" with the allied states.
On August 28, the DSCA announced the US approval of the sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles and related NATO equipment. This deal, worth a total of $103.9 million, was signed in order to help the countries of the alliance ensure their own security.
