- A resident of the DPR was sentenced to nine years in a penal colony for financing Azov
A resident of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) was sentenced to nine years in a penal colony for financing the Azov battalion (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation). This was reported on September 10 in the Telegram channel of the Southern District Military Court of the region.
"It has been established that the defendant got acquainted in the messenger with a publication about the collection of funds for the purchase of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by the banned terrorist organization Azov and decided to assist the terrorist organization by providing it with funds," the regional body said in a statement.
It is reported that in 2024, a woman asked a friend to transfer funds to the bank account of a representative of a banned organization. On the instructions of the accused, the woman transferred the money, thereby assisting her.
The defendant was sentenced in a criminal case under Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Assistance to terrorist activities"). The woman was sentenced to nine years in a general regime penal colony. It is clarified that the verdict has not yet entered into force.
Earlier, on September 3, a court sentenced a resident of the Krasnoyarsk Territory to 10 years in prison for financing an extremist organization. According to the regional Interior Ministry, he made 13 money transfers to the account of an extremist organization.
