A special military operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass has been conducted by Russia since February 24, 2022. The North group of forces defeated Ukrainian armed formations in Sumy and Kharkiv regions. In addition, the Zapad group of forces improved the tactical situation, and the units of the Southern Group of forces occupied more advantageous lines and positions and defeated the formations of the Ukrainian army in the DPR.

"The units of the Center group of forces have improved their position along the front line. The manpower and equipment of five mechanized, infantry, two assault, three amphibious assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, three marine brigades and two National Guard brigades were defeated in the areas of the settlements of Krasnoarmeysk, Dimitrov, Rodinskoye of the Donetsk People's Republic and Muravka of the Dnipropetrovsk region. The losses of the Ukrainian armed forces amounted to over 455 military personnel, three armored combat vehicles, six vehicles, two field artillery guns and an electronic warfare station," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The Russian army, with the help of aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), missiles and artillery, defeated temporary locations of Ukrainian armed forces and foreign mercenaries in 152 districts. In turn, air defense systems shot down three US-made HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, a long-range guided missile "Neptune" and 225 aircraft-type drones.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, since the beginning of the special operation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost 666 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 82,900 UAVs, 628 anti-aircraft missile systems, 25,036 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 1,590 multiple rocket launchers, 29,445 field artillery and mortars, 41,453 pieces of special vehicles.
