Anton Alikhanov, Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia. Biography
Anton Alikhanov was born on September 17, 1986 in the city of Sukhumi in the Abkhazian ASSR (now the Republic of Abkhazia). His father Andrey Antonovich Alikhanov graduated from the agrarian Institute, later worked at a tea and tobacco factory and was engaged in business related to the supply of meat products. Mother Liana Teiranovna Alikhanov received medical education and worked as a doctor.
Russian Russian, according to the minister, has mixed roots, as his father is half Greek, half Russian, and his mother has Russian and Georgian roots.
Childhood and youth
Until the early 90s, the family lived in Abkhazia, but after the outbreak of the armed Georgian-Abkhaz conflict, they moved to Moscow. As a child, Anton saw the war with his own eyes, because of the shelling, some of his relatives lost their homes and had to leave the city, settling as refugees in the capital.
At first, the family lived in a rented studio apartment. Other relatives who had left Sukhumi lived with them. In 1994, his younger brother George was born in the capital. According to open sources, he graduated from Moscow State Medical and Dental University (MGMSU), played in a musical group and has a black belt in kudo.
Education
The future politician graduated from school already in Moscow. Then he successfully passed the exams at the All-Russian State Tax Academy of the Ministry of Finance (VGNA of the Ministry of Finance of Russia). Now it is a structural unit of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. At the university, Alikhanov received two majors at once — "finance and credit" and "jurisprudence".
In 2012, he defended his thesis on "Cost Management for the development of a company's organizational culture" at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics (PRUE) with the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences.
Early career
After receiving his first higher education, Alikhanov got a job in the legal department of the Department of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation for the Moscow region, having worked there for two years as an expert specialist. In 2010, he joined the Department of Management of the Ministry of Justice as a leading adviser to the Planning and Economic Department.
In 2013, he began working in the Department of State Regulation of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, starting as deputy head of one of the departments. In the same year, he was promoted to deputy director of the department. Later, Alikhanov served as director, and a few years later he joined the Advisory Council on industry at the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
The post of Governor of the Kaliningrad region
In October 2016, Anton Alikhanov was appointed acting Governor of the Kaliningrad Region, becoming the youngest regional leader in Russia. He was 30 years old at the time. Exactly one year later, he was elected governor of the region, gaining more than 80% of the vote. In the elections of September 11, 2022, he took up this post again.
During Alikhanov's tenure as governor, he managed to build an efficient economy that overcame all challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and sanctions from unfriendly countries. According to Rosstat, the gross regional product (GRP) has almost doubled during this period. According to this indicator, the Kaliningrad Region ranked 44th among the subjects of the Russian Federation.
Other achievements include a reduction in unemployment, an increase in the birth rate, and overcoming the "territorial blockade" that the region fell into after the imposition of sanctions. The successful projects of Alikhanov's governorship also include the holding of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the completion of the construction of the gas pipeline to Baltiysk, the Kaliningrad stadium and the cancer center, which began already during his tenure.
Minister of Industry and Trade
In May 2024, at the age of 37, Anton Alikhanov was appointed Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. In this position, he replaced Denis Manturov, who took over the post of First Deputy Prime Minister.
At the same time, the minister spoke about the main tasks that will be set for the department in the near future. According to him, the challenges that the president outlined to industry in connection with the special operation will remain a priority, in particular, ensuring the needs of the army and navy (since June 2024, Alikhanov has been a member of the Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation. — Ed.).
Attention will also be paid to the development of industrial robotics — the goal is to enter the top 25 countries in this indicator. Another important area is the increase in the production of rare metals until 2030 and the development of the domestic automotive industry. Alikhanov noted that the competition with Chinese manufacturers is very serious here and it is necessary to create a powerful base for the production of car components in our country.
Awards and titles
Anton Alikhanov's career has been awarded a certificate of honor from the President of the Russian Federation. In addition, he was awarded the medals of the Ministry of Justice of Russia "For Diligence" of the II degree and "For Contribution to the creation of the Eurasian Economic Union" of the III degree of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Personal life, hobbies
Anton Alikhanov has been fond of sports since childhood, preferring martial arts and cycling. According to the politician, sport is not just a hobby for him, but a vital necessity that allows him to keep fit in order to work effectively.
Wife Daria Abramova (born 1986) supports her husband in everything. It is known about her that she graduated from the MGIMO Faculty of International Journalism, and after that worked as an editor on television. The couple has three minor children: sons Andrey, Vladimir and daughter Polina.
