Von der Leyen called on the EU to completely abandon Russian energy resources
The head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen in her keynote speech called on the European Union (EU) to permanently get rid of Russia's energy resources. She stated this on September 10 at the session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
"The time has come to completely get rid of Russian fossil fuels," von der Leyen said.
She added that the answer to Moscow would be "European clean energy based on nuclear energy."
La Vanguardia newspaper reported on August 4 that the EU is at risk of becoming an "energy colony" of the United States after the trade agreement. According to the newspaper, in order to fulfill its obligations, Europe must spend $750 billion over three years to purchase oil, liquefied natural gas and coal from the American side. It is noted that this is almost 70% of the imported energy from the country.
The European Union and the United States agreed on a trade deal on July 27. The agreement will allow the bloc to avoid the 30 percent tariffs that could be imposed by Washington. As a result of the deal, the EU remains with 15 percent tariffs on most of its exports, including cars. In turn, Bloomberg columnist Simon Nixon said that the trade agreement between the United States and the EU is an extremely unfavorable deal for Brussels.
