Agnes Peterson was born on September 9, 1936 in Estonia. After graduating from high school, she entered the Boris Shchukin Theater School (the famous "Pike"), from which she graduated in 1960. After that, she was accepted into the troupe of the Evgeny Vakhtangov State Academic Theater in Moscow, devoting more than 60 years of her life to him.

During her long career, the actress has played more than 30 roles on the stage of the theater. Among them are "The Play without a Name", "The Ladies and the Hussars", "The Queen of Spades", "The Idiot", "The Woman behind the Green Door", "Princess Turandot", "A Philistine in the nobility", "Richard III", "Mystery Buff" and others. She also has dozens of roles in films and television productions.

The actress made her film debut in 1959, playing the main role in Viktor Nevezhin's film Underwater Reefs. In 1964, she starred in the drama "Once upon a Time there was an old man with an old Woman" by Grigory Chukhrai, in 1965 she played a role in the film "Light Hand" by Estonian film director Velja Kasper, shot at the Tallinn Film Studio.

However, all her life, the actress considered herself a real Vakhtangov woman, carefully preserving the traditions of the famous acting school. On stage, she embodied unfading skill, excellent mastery of form, true chic and authentic culture of classical theater, and her performance was remembered by the audience even in small roles.

In 2016, Agnes Peterson's autobiographical book "Declaration of Love. Theatrical memoirs". In addition to memories of working in the theater, it includes literary portraits of colleagues and unique transcripts of rehearsals by Pyotr Fomenko, one of the famous teachers of the actress.

Agnes Oskarovna herself has been teaching at theater institutes for many years, passing on her skills to the younger generation of actors. In 1991, she was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR. And in 2021, the actress was awarded the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree.

On September 9, 2025, the actress turned 89 years old. A day later, she was gone. The sad news came on the morning of September 10th. The press service of the Vakhtangov Theater reported that Agnes Peterson died after a long illness. The theater hoped that the actress would overcome her illness and return to the stage.

The last theatrical work of the actress was the play "Theater" based on the novel by Somerset Maugham, which premiered in March this year. Peterson appeared in the image of French actress Jeanne Taboux, the teacher of the main character Julia Lambert.

The place and time of farewell to the honored artist has not yet been announced.
