- A Russian woman who won a discrimination case in the United States shared the details of the incident.
Russian Adelia Muslimova, who won a court case in Chicago on discrimination based on nationality, told Izvestia on September 10 the details of what happened.
According to her, in February 2023, she contacted a local grooming salon where a Ukrainian woman worked, who refused to provide services due to the fact that Muslimova is a Russian.
She added that after that she decided to sue the company for discrimination and started looking for a lawyer, but no one agreed to handle the case.
Despite this, Muslimova sued on her own and in July, after the final hearing, she was awarded $20,000 in compensation. In addition, the Russian woman added that the initial complaint was due to discrimination, but the court ruled on Russophobia.
Muslimova also stated that the Ukrainian woman had never tried to make contact and make amends during the entire time of the court proceedings. The Russian woman clarified that at the end of the process, the lawyer of the salon employee offered money for withdrawing the application, but Muslimova refused.
"I hope that this precedent will be a lesson for others, <...> once again, I want to say, never despair, fight to the end," she said.
On September 9, Russian emigrant Valery spoke about how he won a court case in the United States after he was fired from his job due to a conflict with Ukrainian refugees. He clarified that the Ukrainians had convinced the bosses of the cafe where the Russian worked to fire him. As a result, Valery and his lawyers filed lawsuits against the institution. The lawsuit lasted almost two years, but in the end, the cafe offered to pay compensation to avoid further litigation.
