Putin awarded the name "Guards" to the 944th self-propelled artillery regiment of the Russian Armed Forces

Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded him the honorary name "Guards" for the massive heroism and bravery, fortitude and courage shown by the personnel of the 944th self-propelled Artillery Regiment of the Southern Group of Forces. This was announced on September 10 by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

The Defense Ministry stressed that, while performing combat missions in the Konstantinovsky direction in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), calculations of self-propelled artillery installations successfully hit targets of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). They strike at identified firing positions, destroy armored vehicles, artillery and mortar batteries, control points for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and long-term firing points.

"It works easily. <...> There is nothing complicated there. <...> As soon as you take a position, you should be on alert right away. We don't have such a thing that you come and start there on a light (in a relaxed atmosphere. — Ed.) to walk. Immediately on alert," the commander of the gun with the call sign Kamysh told about the work of his unit.

The guards status assigned to the artillery regiment is given to military formations that have distinguished themselves on the battlefield. The Guards troops first appeared in Russia during the time of Emperor Peter I and formally ceased to exist in 1918, but were revived during the Great Patriotic War.

"Yes, I would like to mention the efficiency of my people and my battery. That's why we have a lot of destroyed targets and enemy equipment on our account," summed up the battery commander with the call sign Nightingale.

On September 8, Putin highlighted the work of the command and personnel of the 994th and 292nd Guards self-propelled artillery regiments. The Russian leader stressed that during the special operation, representatives of these units became models of military duty, bravery, dedication and high professionalism.
