In Pskov, at the site of the monument to Prince Dovmont, during excavations, a comb made of walrus, elephant or mammoth bones was discovered. The find was made in the layer of the XVIII century.

As stated in the message of Pskov Archeology, which is referenced by the Pskov News feed, in these latitudes, double-sided rectangular or trapezoidal crests were made from dense elk horn. Specimens made of walrus tusks, ivory, mammoth bones, or boxwood are less common. These materials were considered exotic.

For a long time, the only place of extraction of walrus tusk in Russia was the White Sea. In the 17th century, it began to be mined in Siberia. Mammoth bones were also brought from there, and ivory products were delivered from abroad through Arkhangelsk and Kholmogory.

The monument to Prince Dovmont will be installed on the site between Leon Pozemsky Street and Sovetskaya Embankment.

Earlier it was reported that in the Pskov region, it was possible to restore a pot found in 2023 at the Vvedenskoye excavation site in the Pskov region. The vessel was cracked due to the pressure of the earth's mass. The pot has been collected, and now visitors to the exhibition of archaeological finds at the Archaeological Center of the Pskov region will be able to inspect it.
