Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak offered the Syrian authorities Russia's negotiating capabilities to resolve issues with Israel and Syrian ethnic groups. He put forward a corresponding proposal on September 9 during an expanded meeting of the Russian delegation with Syrian officials.

Novak stressed that Moscow shares Damascus' concern about Israel's destructive actions. He also expressed concern about periodic outbreaks of violence against religious and national minorities.

"In this regard, I would like to draw your attention to the unique negotiating opportunities of Russia, which maintains contacts with the leadership of Israel and representatives of all ethnic groups in Syria. We suggest using this factor to have a stabilizing effect on the situation in the republic," he said during the meeting, footage of which was published by Al Ekhbariya TV channel.

In particular, Novak suggested that the Syrian authorities resume the work of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.

Earlier, on August 26, the Syrian Foreign Ministry announced the right to defend the territory and people of its country from the actions of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) with all available means in accordance with international law. It was noted that Damascus regards aggressive actions as a gross violation of the UN Charter, international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

Earlier, on August 19, Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov shared with Izvestia that Moscow was in contact with Tel Aviv on Syria. According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed issues related to the situation in the Middle East, including Syria, during telephone conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
