Japarov, Rakhmon and Mirziyoyev received the Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize
The presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan became laureates of the second International Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize. The footage of the final meeting of the award jury on September 9 is published by Izvestia.
"The winners of the Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy International Peace Prize are announced: President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Three presidents of Central Asian countries," said Valery Gergiev, the orchestra's Russian conductor and general director of the Moscow Theater.
The award ceremony was held in Moscow on Leo Tolstoy's birthday.
The Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize is awarded for significant contributions to the preservation of peace, active peacekeeping activities aimed at countering the threat of World War III and preventing nuclear catastrophe. It was first presented at the Bolshoi Theatre in 2024. The award went to the international intergovernmental organization "African Union" for its significant contribution to the cause of peace consolidation. The award was accepted by the Chairman of the African Union Commission, Musa Faki Mahamat.
On September 10, 2024, the great-grandson of the writer Vladimir Tolstoy announced that the international prize could become an annual one.
