- Lavrov called the planned referendum on confidence in the leadership of the RS correct.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during talks with the President of Republika Srpska (RS, an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina) On September 9, Milorad Dodik called the planned October referendum on confidence in the leadership of the Republic of Moldova an honest and correct step.
"I would also like to mention the referendum that Republika Srpska and President Dodik are planning for October 25, with an appeal to determine whether the citizens of Republika Srpska support the course pursued by the leadership <...> or not, and I think this is an honest <...> this is a bold and right step," Lavrov said.
In contrast to this approach, the minister cited the example of the West, where "they don't really want to hear the voice of the people."
On August 6, the President of Republika Srpska, Dodik, announced that he did not intend to leave his post and the territory of the republic. He initiated a referendum, in which, according to him, the people will express their will regarding his mandate and the further exercise of presidential powers.
On August 18, Dodik announced a referendum on confidence in the political course of the RS leadership. The referendum was supposed to be held at the end of September.
