Hungary is not going to abandon Russian gas and signs a contract with a Western supplier in addition to supplies from Russia. This was announced on September 9 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"We should not replace existing energy sources, but attract new ones — that's what energy diversification is all about. The more sources, the higher the security," the politician wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

Szijjarto noted that he would sign a long-term contract with a Western gas supplier at the Gastech international exhibition in Milan.

"Russian sources will remain, and we will attract new ones," he concluded.

On the same day, Szijjarto announced that Hungary would soon sign the "longest-term" contract for the purchase of gas "from the western direction." He stressed that as the number of routes increases, Budapest will be able to purchase more and be safer.
