More than 500 kg of drugs were seized from the driver and passenger of a Gazelle in the Moscow region

Police found a Gazelle car with more than 500 kg of drugs inside on a federal highway in the Moscow region. This was announced by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk on Tuesday, September 9.

"My colleagues from the drug control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Moscow region, together with employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate, detained suspects in an attempt to sell a large batch of drugs," the Moscow City News agency quoted a representative of the department.

She clarified that the police stopped the Gazelle to check on 43 km of the M11 Neva highway, RT reports. Four metal coils with a cable were found in the back of the car, inside of which there were 479 bundles with a powdery substance with a total weight of over 500 kg, IA Regnum reports.

An investigative task force was called to the scene. The seized powder was transferred for research. According to the expert who conducted a study of 10 packages, they contain a derivative of the narcotic drug ephedron with a total weight of about 10 kg. The rest of the powder will be examined as part of the criminal investigation.

The driver and passenger of the Gazelle were detained, Moscow 24 writes.

"They stated that, on the instructions of unknown curators in the Leningrad region, they loaded the coils into a car and were supposed to deliver them to Moscow. They knew they were carrying drugs. A criminal case has been opened against the detainees under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 5 of Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation," Volk said, adding that the defendants in the case were taken into custody.

Earlier that day, police officers in Penza seized more than 6 kg of marijuana from a local resident.

The substances were seized and sent for examination, which confirmed that they were marijuana with a total weight of more than 300 g, as well as parts of narcotic plants of the cannabis genus weighing more than 6 kg.
