The Ministry of Industry and Trade has prepared a draft order approving models for taxis

In preparation for the entry into force of the draft law on taxi localization, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation is forming the regulatory framework necessary for further publication of the list of models suitable for the criteria developed by the developers. The draft order of the Ministry regulating the procedure for such publications is posted on the federal portal of regulatory legal acts.

"A list containing information on specific vehicle models will be prepared by the end of this year (the deadline is until the end of February 2026). The possibility of updating this document will be provided," the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade told Izvestia on September 9.

The list will include the make and model of the car, as well as the manufacturer's identification code (WMI) of the car.

In May, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law setting requirements for the localization level of cars that can be purchased for taxis. The law will be effective from March 1, 2026. Localization requirements for taxi cars will not apply to vehicles registered in regional registries before this date. They will be able to carry passengers even after the law comes into force.
