Rospatent refused to register the trademark "I am Russian" to the SHAMAN artist
Rospatent has refused to register the trademark "I am Russian" to the Honored Artist of Russia SHAMAN (real name — Yaroslav Dronov). This became known on September 9th.
As RIA Novosti reported with reference to relevant documents, such a decision was made at the end of August this year. Both of the contractor's applications, which were submitted back in 2024, were rejected.
It is specified that Rospatent in March gave Dronov six months to send explanations and comments for possible registration.
On October 16, 2024, it became known that the singer was registering the trademark "I am Russian". Under this name, the performer can produce alcoholic beverages and cosmetics.
Rospatent told Izvestia that the average time for reviewing applications for registration is at least four months. According to lawyer Sergey Zuikov, the trademark "I am Russian" has no distinguishing ability and does not characterize the declared goods, therefore it cannot be registered.
In turn, MP Vitaly Milonov expressed his disagreement about the privatization and monetization of the concept of "I am Russian." He pointed out that an artist can only freely manage his stage image as a SHAMAN singer, and apply for brand registration using his face or other body parts.
