Russian ethnologist and cultural and social anthropologist Svyatoslav Kaverin, who returned to Russia after being detained in Afghanistan for allegedly smuggling jewelry, met with family and friends at Sheremetyevo Airport in the capital. Izvestia publishes footage from Aerogavan on September 9.
"Hello everyone! Thank you for the meeting, for the warm welcome," Kaverin greeted the audience, leaving the area where all passengers of international flights arrive.
The scientist, who was presented with a bouquet of chrysanthemums and Peruvian lilies, hugged everyone. The researcher had a load with him, the weight of which, as he wrote earlier in his Telegram channel, was 150 kg.
The plane carrying the detained Russian took off for Moscow on August 8. Kaverin's mother Tatiana, in an interview with Izvestia, speaking about the expectation of her son, noted that he had been in Afghanistan for about two months. Earlier it was clarified that the purpose of the scientist's trip was to study the provinces of Kunar, Nuristan, Kapisa and Nangarhar.
Andrey Kibrik, Director of the Institute, head of the Department of Typology and Areal Linguistics, head of the Areal Linguistics Sector, Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said on the same day that the scientist's colleagues had written a letter asking for his release. Later, Kaverin posted a photo from the passport control area and thanked the concerned people for their support.
