On September 8, Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger, congratulated St. Petersburg students on winning the International Programming Championship (ICPC).
"For the first time, the team of St. Petersburg State University (St. Petersburg State University. — Ed.) took the first place in the ICPC in 2000 and 2001, when my brother participated in it. Since then, St. Petersburg students have become absolute winners 10 more times, making this city the world leader in the number of championship titles," he noted in his Telegram channel.
Durov also expressed hope that he would be able to personally congratulate the champions in Dubai.
On September 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated St. Petersburg State University students Leonid Danilevich, Maxim Turevsky and Fedor Ushakov on their victory at the ICPC Championship, which was held in Baku. The Russian leader wished the team further success in their studies and new achievements. Putin also expressed gratitude to the teachers, coaches and parents of the winners who helped to achieve high results.
The St. Petersburg State University team that won the World Cup returned to St. Petersburg on the morning of September 6. The participants shared that they had to solve algorithmic problems in the competition. It was clarified that teams from more than 70 countries entered the final stage of the championship. However, only four teams managed to become gold medalists, including representatives of St. Petersburg State University.
