Russian ethnologist and cultural and social anthropologist Svyatoslav Kaverin, who was detained in Afghanistan for allegedly smuggling jewelry, landed at Sheremetyevo Airport on September 8, from where he posted his photo.

"I'm sitting at Sheremetyevo Airport at passport control, as I couldn't help but arouse interest. As soon as I have a connection, I will write something later," says his publication in the Telegram channel.

Kaverin accompanied this post with a photograph, which was taken against the background of one of the walls of the aerogavan. He thanked the caring people for their support and noted that he had dropped out of the information agenda for 52 days due to being "completely offline."

The plane carrying Kaverin took off from Afghanistan for Russia on the same day. It was clarified that the purpose of the scientist's trip was to study the provinces of Kunar, Nuristan, Kapisa and Nangarhar. The scientist's mother Tatiana, in an interview with Izvestia, noted that her entire family remained silent in order to facilitate the return of her son.

On August 8, Andrey Kibrik, Director of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Head of the Department of Typology and Areal Linguistics, Head of the Areal Linguistics Sector, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, shared with Izvestia details about the efforts made by the team to free his employee. According to Kibrik, a collective letter was sent from the institute asking for help in freeing Kaverin.
