A letter was sent from the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) asking for help in the release of Russian ethnologist and cultural and social anthropologist Svyatoslav Kaverin from Afghanistan. He shared that he had learned about the scientist's detention from his colleague, Igor Ishchepelyaev, head of the Iranian Languages department at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to him, he is well acquainted with Svyatoslav and his research.
"After that, we sent a letter from the Institute of Linguistics <...> asking for help in the release of this most interesting Russian scientist who was detained in Afghanistan," he said.
Kibrik also expressed gratitude to all his colleagues, experts in the languages of Afghanistan and Iran, who took the situation very personally and spared no time to take action and inform the Russian authorities.
In addition, he shared that he had talked with colleagues from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Kibrik stressed that the relevant ties have borne fruit. He noted that he was glad to learn about Kaverin's release and return to Russia.
Earlier that day, the plane carrying Kaverin took off from Afghanistan for Russia. His mother Tatiana confirmed this information. According to her, he will arrive home at night. She also clarified that the condition for his release from the Taliban was not to create a fuss about the situation.
In July of this year, Kaverin announced his arrest "for attempting to "smuggle " jewelry" in Kunduz. Then he clarified that he rarely receives a phone. Since then, he has not updated the Telegram channel. It was clarified that the purpose of the scientist's trip was to study the provinces of Kunar, Nuristan, Kapisa and Nangarhar.
