The famous Russian-Israeli poet and writer Alexander Vernik died at the age of 78 as a result of a long illness. This was announced on September 8 by publicist and philologist Nikolai Podosokorsky.

"The Russian Israeli poet Alexander Leonidovich Wernick died at the age of 78," Podosokorsky wrote on his Telegram channel.

Vernik was born in Kharkov in 1947. He graduated from the Russian Department of the Faculty of Philology at Kharkov University. In 1978, Wernick moved to Israel as part of a repatriation program. His work was not published in the USSR, but various leading literary publications began to publish his works in Israel.

In 1987, the poet published a collection of poems "Biography", in 1991 — "Winter gatherings", and in 1999 — "Garden over the Abyss". Some of the writer's works were translated into Hebrew and published in Israeli publications.
