- The French lawyer predicted a political crisis after the failure of the vote of confidence in Bayrou
After the failure of the vote of confidence in the government of French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou, the country will face a political crisis. Philippe de Vell, a political scientist, lawyer, member of the Paris Bar Association, and head of the doctoral program at Paris Descartes University, told Izvestia on September 8.
"The President of [France] Emmanuel Macron will face a political crisis because he will be at the forefront," he said.
According to him, Bayrou understands the lack of chances to cope with the country's budget problems. De Vell stressed that France's debt exceeds €3.5 billion. Such an amount, as noted, is almost impossible to recover, so the government "shifts this return to generations."
The lawyer named Macron as the culprit of the destruction of the French economy, who increased the debt even more during his reign. After Bayrou's resignation, the French president will have a choice — either appoint a new prime minister based on a coalition in the National Assembly, or dissolve the assembly and provoke new parliamentary elections.
"Or, even better, resign yourself. <...> This, in my opinion, would be the best solution for him before it is too late," de Vell stressed, while clarifying that Macron does not want to take such a step despite the support of only about 10% of the country's population.
Earlier in the day, the French parliament expressed no confidence in the Bayrou government. A total of 573 deputies cast their votes. 194 people voted in favor, 364 against. Now the prime minister must submit to Macron a letter of resignation from the government.
