France and Germany have proposed to the European Union (EU) to impose restrictions on Lukoil and its subsidiary Litasco as part of a new package of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by the Barron's newspaper on September 8, citing diplomats.

"Germany and France are seeking to impose sanctions on the Russian oil giant Lukoil as part of a new package of EU sanctions due to the <conflict> in Ukraine," the material says.

It is specified that the restrictions may also apply to Lukoil's subsidiary Litasco. According to sources, France and Germany are also seeking to target refineries in third countries that are involved in exporting Russian oil to the EU, as well as trading firms working with Russian oil.

On the same day, the Reuters news agency reported that the European Commission (EC) will propose the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions by September 12. It was clarified that banks in two Central Asian countries, Russian regional banking organizations and other companies could be included in the list of restrictions.

Earlier, on September 4, a number of European countries supported the EU measures imposed this year against Russian and Moldovan citizens, as well as foreign journalists. Supporters of these measures include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Moldova, Norway, Liechtenstein and Ukraine.
