During a telephone conversation with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the prospects for the development of Russian-Saudi relations. This was announced on September 8 by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The foreign ministers discussed in detail the current state and prospects for further strengthening multifaceted Russian-Saudi relations," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
In addition, during the conversation, the parties noted the importance of maintaining a political dialogue between the countries, as well as intensifying joint work on the development of trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
Earlier, on August 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, during which he informed Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud about his contacts with US President Donald Trump. The parties also appreciated the joint work in the OPEC+ format to ensure the stability of the global energy market.
On August 27, Putin sent a letter to the Crown Prince regarding bilateral relations between the two countries. It was clarified that the Russian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Sergey Kozlov, conveyed a message from Putin to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the kingdom, Abdel Rahman bin Ibrahim al-Rassi. During the meeting, the parties also discussed the bilateral relations between Moscow and Riyadh and ways to develop them.
