Peseshkian proposed to create a mechanism in BRICS to counteract sanctions

During the online summit of the BRICS member countries on Monday, September 8, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian proposed to create a mechanism within the framework of the association to counteract unilateral sanctions.

He drew attention to the fact that the world is currently going through a difficult time, in which the pressure of unilateral coercive measures, illegal sanctions is growing, as well as socio-economic inequality is worsening. According to Pezeshkian, these events paint a disturbing picture of the current order.

The Iranian president called the growth of unilateral actions and the use of economic sanctions and restrictions one of the most serious threats to justice and stability of the modern international order.

"BRICS can and should play a key and leading role in countering this alarming trend. This dynamic and influential coalition, based on diversity and solidarity, is able to become a united and powerful voice in defense of national sovereignty, mutual respect and resolution of differences through dialogue and multilateral cooperation," follows from the speech of the President of the Islamic Republic, published on his website.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stressed during the summit that secondary sanctions limit opportunities for strengthening trade ties between states. He also touched upon the issue of the Ukrainian conflict, noting that the settlement should take into account the legitimate security concerns of all parties.

During an online meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged humanity not to return to the "law of the jungle." According to him, everyone living on the same planet should peacefully coexist and work together, upholding common values and defending international justice.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also took part in the summit. According to the Kremlin's press service, the leaders of the BRICS countries discussed cooperation in trade, economic, financial, investment and other spheres, taking into account the current situation in the global economy.
