Costa called for tougher sanctions against countries buying oil from Russia
Europe should tighten sanctions against Russia and states that buy Russian oil and gas. This was announced on September 8 by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa.
"What we need to do is increase our pressure on Russia to bring it to the negotiating table," he said during a press conference broadcast on the European Council's YouTube channel.
Costa, in particular, called for thinking about strengthening sanctions for states that buy Russian oil.
Earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported that the European Union (EU) was considering plans to introduce a new package of anti-Russian sanctions that could affect financial institutions, energy companies, cryptocurrency exchanges and payment systems. It was clarified that the strengthening of restrictions against such large oil companies as Rosneft is also being considered.
