Russia strongly condemns the West's attempts to remove the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, from the political scene by unscrupulous methods. The relevant information was published on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on August 8.

"Russia strongly condemns attempts by Westerners to unscrupulously remove the legitimately elected and legitimate President of Republika Srpska, Mikhail Dodik, from the political scene," the ministry said in a statement.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the decision of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to revoke Dodik's presidential mandate carries "significant destabilizing potential." The ministry added that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold a meeting with Dodik on September 9 in Moscow.

On February 26, the BiH court sentenced Dodik to a year in prison in absentia in the case of non-compliance with the decisions of the UN High Representative in BiH, Christian Schmidt. He was banned from political activity for six years.

On August 6, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina annulled Dodik's mandate and also decided to hold early elections.

On August 28, it became known that the CEC of Bosnia and Herzegovina had scheduled early presidential elections for Republika Srpska on November 23. On the same day, Dodik announced that he and members of his ruling Union of Independent Social Democrats party would not participate in the elections. On September 2, the Parliament of the RS BiH elected a new government by a majority vote. The former head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Savo Minich, became its head.
