On September 2, a court in Turkey ordered the dismissal of the head and other board members of the Republican People's Party (CHP) in Istanbul. This was reported on September 7 by the newspaper Sözcü, citing a statement made by the country's Foreign Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

"By a temporary decision of the 45th Civil Court of First Instance of Istanbul dated September 2, 2025, the chairman and members of the Board of the NRP in Istanbul were suspended from their duties as a precautionary measure, and an interim council was appointed in their place," the publication says.

The minister added that an attempt to ignore a court ruling or a call from party supporters to take to the streets to protest would entail "drastic measures" from the authorities.

On March 19, Turkish law enforcement agencies issued a warrant for the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. An anti-corruption operation has been launched against the Istanbul administration.

The mayor of the city was arrested on March 23. After that, the country's Interior Ministry reported that Imamoglu had been temporarily suspended from his duties. Against the background of his arrest, mass protests began in the republic.

On July 16, the arrested mayor was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for insulting the prosecutor.
