More than 11% of high school students choose the subjects of the Unified State Exam on the advice of their parents, but it is recommended to make their own informed choice. About this on September 8, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by the experts of the Umskul online school.

It is noted that the choice of subjects for the Unified State Exam is a strategic decision that will subsequently affect the choice of institutions of higher education. However, not all students think about this.

According to a study by Umskul, 78% of students choose subjects based on personal interests, while only 59% are guided by the prospects of their future profession. More than 11% of schoolchildren admit that they follow their parents' advice, which also does not always meet their real needs and university requirements.

Experts advised students to choose subjects for the Unified State Exam, focusing on the specialties that they choose for further study at the university. This will avoid choosing subjects that will later be useless for admission.

Speaking about choosing a fourth subject for the Unified State Exam, it is worth noting that this can be a strategic choice if a graduate considers related specialties with different requirements or takes the exam as a "spare" in case of a shortage of points in the main disciplines. English or social studies are usually chosen as such a subject. However, it must be remembered that preparing for the exam in an additional subject also takes a lot of effort and time.

"Experts recommend developing at least two admission scenarios: the main one (if you successfully pass all exams) and an alternative one (if you don't get enough points in one of the subjects). This reduces stress and allows you to get a high—quality education despite the circumstances," the publication says.

Earlier, on September 1, Victoria Podsukhina, a teacher and head of regional teaching at the educational company MAXIMUM, spoke about important nuances in preparing for university admission. The expert advised to decide on the direction of study. You should not be guided only by the prestige of the profession or the opinion of others.
