A unique bas-relief depicting Maxim Gorky, whose name the studio has borne since 1948, was discovered at the Gorky Film Studio. This was announced on Sunday, September 7, according to the website of the Moscow City Hall.

Honored Artist of Russia Valentin Shikharev, who worked at the studio as a sculptor in the 1950s and 1960s, recalled that he initially created a bas-relief in clay, and later it was moved to a large format. According to him, the work is influenced by the sculptor Ivan Shadr, as well as elements of the style of Alexandra Exter, Aristarkh Lentulov and the Vesnin brothers. Shikharev noted that the bas—relief turned out to be alive - it gives the impression that Gorky is looking directly at the viewer, the Moscow city News agency reports.

The artist said that his task was not just to create an emblem, but to revive the symbolism of the film studio. Initially, a one-and-a-half-meter statue of Gorky by his authorship was used in the screensaver of the films, however, it appeared only in a few tapes, RIAMO notes. But the bas-relief proved to be in demand and was used on official letterheads, tickets, letters and seals until the 1970s. In the jubilee year of the studio, he will take pride of place in its historic building on Sergei Eisenstein Street, where employees, tenants and visitors will be able to see him, writes Moscow 24.

Juliana Slashcheva, General Director of the film studio, emphasized that the studio carefully preserves the history of Russian cinema, combining the traditions of the past with a modern approach to production. She noted that the discovery of the bas-relief during the period of large-scale modernization has become a symbol of continuity and will now take its rightful place in the historic building.

On September 5, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said that the reconstruction of the Gorky Film Studio on Sergei Eisenstein Street was reaching the finish line. The official noted that the third stage, namely the overhaul of the existing filming pavilions and auxiliary facilities, will be completed by the end of 2025, NSN said.

In July, Sobyanin visited the construction site of the Gorky Film Studio and production complex in Valdai Passage and said that work was actively underway and would be completed by the end of 2025. He also spoke about the plans for the second stage of the development of the site in Valdai Passage. According to him, the existing capacities are no longer enough for the growing film industry, so the new studios will help create a high-quality and affordable product. The project will be implemented as soon as possible, according to 360.ru .
