The expert spoke about the antidepressant properties of lavender
Certain plants help fight depression along with antidepressants. He told the Newspaper about this on September 7.Ru" Evgeny Taratukhin, Associate Professor of the Department of Hospital Therapy named after Academician P.E. Lukomsky Institute of Clinical Medicine at Pirogov University.
"Lavender, namely its extracts, have shown effectiveness in combating depression in a variety of studies. Lavender essential oil, for example, is used in the form of the drug Silexan in Germany," the specialist said.
Unlike the large list of side effects from antidepressants, lavender essential oil, according to Taratukhin, has no contraindications. However, when using natural extracts, it is worth remembering about possible allergic reactions.
The doctor also noted that lavender extract, that is, essential oil, should be distinguished from perfume fragrance and, in general, the smell of lavender in perfumes.
"Only real lavender, the so-called English lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, is used in clinical research. It is her extracts that have shown effectiveness, but they can be of different quality and purity. You can not use low—quality essential oil inside," the associate professor concluded.
Earlier, on September 5, it was reported that the consumption of artificial sweeteners reduces cognitive functions. According to the study, those participants who consumed the most low-calorie or no-calorie sweeteners experienced a more rapid decline in memory and cognitive skills over the course of eight years.
