Government support measures will help keep the decline in new car sales in Russia within 25-30% by the end of 2025. This was announced on September 7 by Anton Alikhanov, Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, at the Eastern Economic Forum 2025 (WEF 2025).

"In June, we already voiced our expectations — we expect that, thanks to government support measures, the decline in new car sales in all segments will be kept within 25-30% year—on-year," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the minister, the results of the year in car sales and production will depend on further changes in the key rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the newspaper noted.Ru». Alikhanov added that it is premature to update previous forecasts at the moment.

Earlier, on September 2, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said that new car sales in Russia by the end of 2025 could be about 20% worse than in 2024. In his opinion, about 1.25 million new cars will be sold in Russia this year, compared with 1.57 million passenger cars a year earlier. Under a more optimistic scenario, sales could reach about 1.4 million units, and this is the highest possible result.
