Fico stated the importance of providing guarantees for Russia's security

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that it is necessary to create security guarantees not only for Ukraine, but also for Russia. This became known on September 6 in the program "Saturday dialogues", broadcast on the YouTube channel STVR – politické debaty.

"Let's not forget that it is necessary to negotiate security guarantees not only for Ukraine, but also for Russia," Fico said.

Earlier in the day, Fico said Slovakia would not send troops to Ukraine with security guarantees. At the same time, he added that if the country can provide logistical assistance within the framework of security guarantees, it will be ready to do so. According to him, Slovakia will not refuse to use its transport infrastructure if security agreements are reached.

On September 5, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during the Eastern Economic Forum 2025 (WEF 2025) that security guarantees should be provided not only to Ukraine, but also to Russia. He noted that one of the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine was the violation of security guarantees for Russia when Ukraine began taking steps to join NATO.
