The European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia are doing much more harm to European countries themselves than to the Russian economy. This was announced on September 6 by Spanish diplomat Jose Soriya.

"In Europe, the second—degree leadership recommends that the top leadership no longer impose sanctions against Russia, because sanctions harm us more than Russia," the politician said in a video on the Neutrality Studies YouTube channel.

However, according to him, this call remains fruitless, since the European political establishment still intends to continue to impose new sanctions against Russia.

Irina Sozdatel, Vice President of the Association of Exporters and Importers, coordinator of the business community for Customs Policy Implementation at the Federal Customs Service of Russia, told Izvestia on September 5 that the EU sanctions policy against Russia has already demonstrated that its consequences significantly affect the European economies themselves. Each new measure becomes a symbolic step rather than a real instrument of pressure, and reflects the condition of a cornered player who can no longer stop, but also does not achieve the desired result.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, announced on August 17 that the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia would be ready in early September. According to her, the EU has already begun preparations for new restrictions. The diplomat added that Europe will continue to exert economic pressure on Russia, as well as tighten restrictions.
