Trump expressed disappointment with India's decision to buy oil from Russia
US President Donald Trump said on September 5 that he was disappointed with India's decision to buy oil from Russia in large quantities.
"I was very disappointed that India buys so much oil from Russia. And I made it clear to them," Trump said in a conversation with reporters in the Oval Office, broadcast by the Fox News channel.
Trump also added that in connection with this factor, the United States imposed a high trade duty on exports of goods from India.
Earlier in the day, Trump wished Russia, India and China a "long and prosperous" future together. The American leader said that the United States had lost India and Russia, which, according to him, had deepened relations with China.
On September 4, Trump abandoned a trade agreement with India over Russian oil. According to one of the sources, the central element was India's proposal to significantly reduce duties on American goods. According to the publication, this would be a major concession from New Delhi in the trade dispute.
On August 26, it was reported that the 50% trade duties previously announced by Trump had already begun to apply to India. It was noted that the tariffs affected goods, which included precious stones, jewelry, shoes, sports equipment, as well as furniture and chemicals.
