Half of Germans supported the deployment of German troops in Ukraine

More than 50% of German residents supported the deployment of Bundeswehr troops in Ukraine in the event of a cease-fire and the appearance of European forces there. This was announced on September 4 by the Wahlen research group commissioned by the ZDF TV channel.

According to the data, 53% of respondents supported Germany's participation in ensuring the truce, while 42% opposed it. At the same time, in the eastern federal states, the majority — 54% — rejected this idea.

"The majority of citizens believe that Germany should participate in ensuring a ceasefire through the military of the Bundeswehr," the study notes.

At the same time, only 4% of respondents believe in a speedy and sustainable cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, while 94% consider this unlikely.

Later, on September 5, it was reported that Ukraine feared for the deployment of European Union (EU) troops in the country. An anonymous Ukrainian official, in an interview with The Military Times magazine, expressed concern about an expensive security guarantee with untested results.
