The detained basketball player Kasatkin refused extradition from France to the USA
Daniil Kasatkin, a Russian basketball player detained in France, refused to be extradited to the United States. This was announced on September 5 by the athlete's lawyer Frederic Belo.
"This afternoon we had a hearing with the participation of the prosecutor representing the General Prosecutor's Office of Paris. The prosecutor informed him of the various documents that make up the arrest warrant handed over to the United States. Daniil confirmed that he refuses extradition," he told RIA Novosti.
According to Kasatkin's lawyer, no new facts were presented in the United States documents.
Kasatkin's detention in France became known on July 9 at the request of the United States. According to Belo, the Russian is probably accused of extortion due to the use of his computer by intruders.
On August 27, the judge announced during a hearing in Paris that Kasatkin could face up to 25 years in prison under two articles. At the same time, the athlete denies all the accusations against him. Kasatkin's request for release under judicial supervision was also rejected.
